The first re por t of th eir use in l e prosy appears to be that of Lowe . 1 He re por te d that 5-day cours es gave immediate be ne fi t in acute manif es ta tions of l e pro sy , warned that th ey might re cur (somet imes more se ve rely) on stopping tr ea tm e nt , and warned also of th e possibili ty of aggra vation of th e underlying dis ease . He advised th em unre se rvedly for drug all e rgy and (as local applications which are de void of systemic toxicity) for ey e complications.
