Beginning with a summary of the basic useful results and expressions for input-impedance antenna bandwidth, it’s associated impedance quality factor, the recently derived field-based quality factor that is equivalent to the impedance quality factor, dispersive tuning, and Bode-Fano tuning, it is shown that dispersive and Bode-Fano tuning can be combined to significantly increase the antenna bandwidth over that of dispersive tuning or Bode-Fano tuning alone, and without increasing the group delay. Although these techniques to increase bandwidth are applied in the present paper to electrically small antennas, they could equally well be applied to increase the bandwidths of the unit-cell inclusions (metamolecules) in microwave and optical metamaterials.
