The degradation behaviour of poly(vinyl bromide) and blends of poly(vinyl bromide) and poly(methyl acrylate) is studied. Methyl bromide, anhydride and lactone structures are found among the degradation products, indicating interaction between the polymers in the blends during the degradation process. An interpretation of the mechanism of the degradation process is presented based on the attack of hydrogen bromide formed in the degradation of PVB on the ester groups of PMA
