A simple solar water heater (SSWH) is technically promising, and cost-effective (installation cost and long-term operating cost wise) solar thermal system. This technology is now widely adopted by many countries for domestic and industrial purposes. Till now, various modifications have been carried out and adopted by the researchers to enhance performance of SSWH. These modifications are related to various components of SSWH such as design of flow directing inserts, design of concentrating arrangements, use of nanofluids, application of fins, vortex generators, etc. This research paper presents a systematic review of recent research & development pertaining SSWH components. Different enhancement techniques (component-wise) have been identified, explored, and eventually some recommendations have been presented.
