What do elderly people who are ill expect from nurses? There is much in the literature describing what relatives want, but little about what elderly people want themselves. Arblaster et al (1990) suggest that dignity and respect are high on elderly people's agenda. Dignity refers to the ‘worth’ we place on them and ‘respect’ to how considerately we treat them.
