SUMMARY The results of 45 biochemical and physiological tests on 122 strains of streptococci of serological group D (three of which also contained the ‘Q’ antigen) from a variety of habitats were subjected to computer analysis. The organisms clustered into five main groups representing the species (1) Streptococcus faecalis, (2) S. faecium and S. durans, which we consider are best treated as one species, and (3) S. aviun, (4) S. bovis, (5) S. equinus.
