The torsionally vibrating quartz crystal has been used to measure the complex viscosity of polymer oil systems under different temperatures and hydrostatic pressures. An extension of the method of reduced variables has been proposed to take into account the changes in viscosity due to pressure. The application of this method to 4 polymer solutions has proven its validity. The use of the quartz crystal allows conditions of high rates of shear and hydrostatic pressures to be accessible without undue heating.
