Workplace exploitation involves the exploitation of employees that is marked by various forms of violations of labor laws, apart from safety violations and discrimination, and it continues to receive significant media attention. However, there is a paucity of standardized tools to measure this phenomenon. The present research has helped formulate a five-item workplace exploitation scale (Wex-5), developed using both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The scale’s construct and convergent validity, apart from composite reliability and internal consistency, have been proven. More importantly, the scale has been developed using responses (n = 200) from individuals currently employed in multiple sectors, including the corporate sector, medical sector, NGO sector, apart from teaching, hospitality, training, and government sectors. Researchers and organizations interested in measuring workplace exploitation will find this scale both valid and reliable.
