A multicen tric, controlled double-blind trial was undertaken to compare the efficacy of low-dosage therapy with dapsone and c10fazimine in lepromatous leprosy. The results, which we re evaluated centrally allow the conclusion that lowering of the dosage , either of dapsone or of clofazj.mine, is not followed by a proportional loss of antibacterial activity _ The incidence of lepra reactions , especially ENL, in the clofazimine group was significant1y lower and skin discolouration no worse than in the dapsone group. The use of clofazimine in low doses would appear to serve a useful purpose and is recornrnended for periods of up to one year.
