SUMMARY The problem of urinary tract infection in paraplegic patients and the need for a better method of artificial evacuation of the urinary bladder are emphasised. The literature related to the electrical stimulation of the urinary bladder is reviewed and the problems encountered are enumerated. An equivalent circuit for the bladder impedance of dogs is presented. This model provides a better understanding of the electrical stimulation of the urinary bladder in dogs.
