The focus of relocation studies of older adults has undergone a series of changes in the past 20 years. Recently, by moving attention away from inconsistent findings to discovering what happens to the older adults immediately following relocation and mitigating the negative effects, researchers are providing more useful information to nurses who have daily contact with the older relocatees. With a growing population of institutionalized old elderly, it is paramount for researchers and policy makers to continue their studies and efforts toward helping nurses ease the older adult group through "a major life passage."
