I read with great interest the paper by Mantani et al.1 They showed that two kinds of Japanese herbal medicines (i.e. Kami-shoyo-san and Hange-koboku-to) were effective for four female patients with panic disorder. In their paper they commented that the patients treated with Kami-shoyo-san were older and complained of more symptoms than those treated with Hange-koboku-to. The former were 59 years old and 53 years old while the latter were 33 and 45 years old. However, their paper made no mention of the fact that all patients were women. It may be useful to tell readers that Kami-shoyo-san is usually used for women, especially for climacteric symptoms or menstrual disorder while Hange-koboku-to is used for both sexes.2
