Paramagnetic Ag 2+ centres are formed by interaction of O atoms with dehydrated AgA and AgX as studied by in situ ESR measurements in a flow system. Interaction of molecular oxygen with the reduced, silver loaded zeolites leads to O − 2 adsorbed on an “oxidized” surface. No indication for adsorbed O − was found. The conduction electron ESR signal of small Ag particles serves as a probe for chemisorption of O 2 C 2 H 4 , C 2 H 4 O and H 2 O; it is not affected by CO 2 . – Reaction of C 2 H 4 with Ag 2+ results in a radical, while no paramagnetic intermediate is detectable in the immediate reaction with O 2 − .
