Optical generation of mm-waves using spectrum-slicedASEfor low-cost WDM based fibre radio systems

The authors describe the optically supported generation of a 30 GHz mm-wave signal, with an electrical linewidth of < 1 Hz, from a spectrum slice of the ASE noise output of an EDFA. The technique described has the potential to significantly reduce the cost of a WDM-based fibre mm-wave radio system.
