Social work's conventional environmental and ecological perspectives have been important to the theoretical legacy of the profession. In recent years, a new ecosocialwork perspective has emerged that is radically different from the profession's earlier orientations. This new perspective shares much in common with the field of ecopsychology. This essay traces the evolution of ecosocialwork and describes several of its distinguishing features, foundational values, and scholarly contributions. Finally, it calls for an effort to bring ecopsychology and ecosocialwork together to better understand each other's unique contribution and offers up a vision for formulating interdisciplinary collaborations.
