The rearrangement of the 2‐methyl‐2‐phenylpropyl (or neophyl) radical 1 to the 1‐methyl‐1‐benzylethyl radical 2 is observed by ESR. spectroscopy during photolysis of di‐ t ‐butylperoxide in t ‐butylbenzene at 270–360 K. The energy of activation of the rearrangement is determined to be (43 ± 9) kJ mol −1 .
