Over the years, the Ultrasonics International conferences have done much to stimulate communication and discussion of a broad spectrum of activity in ultrasonics. The latest meeting, held in London, UK, 6-9 July 1987, was no exception. These Proceedings present an excellent summary of ultrasonics research worldwide. In addition to 3 plenary and 4 invited papers, the conference served as a forum for 150 contributed papers, 82 of which were oral and the rest were poster presentations.
