Why the study?
Postpartum thrombotic microangiopathy is a rare, life-threatening condition that can mimic more common obstetric complications such as preeclampsia or sepsis.
This case emphasizes the importance of high clinical suspicion and timely multidisciplinary intervention in postpartum patients with rapidly deteriorating organ function due to thrombotic microangiopathy.
Postpartum thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) is a rare but life-threatening condition that may mimic more common obstetric complications such as preeclampsia or sepsis. We report the case of a 31-year-old woman who, following an uneventful cesarean delivery, developed acute respiratory distress, refractory metabolic acidosis, thrombocytopenia, and renal failure.Prompt ICU management, including continuous renal replacement therapy, corticosteroids, and plasma exchange, led to a full recovery. This case emphasizes the importance of high clinical suspicion and timely multidisciplinary intervention in postpartum patients with rapidly deteriorating organ function.
