An expression is derived for the van der Waals energy of two helium atoms, exchange terms being neglected. This expression can be expanded as an asymptotic series in inverse powers of the internuclear distance. The first two terms in this series are compared with the dipole-dipole and dipole-quadrupole terms of previous workers.
