Mysis stenolepis was allowed to filter feed on suspensions of 14 C‐labeled raw cellulose and hay particles, with and without a coating of microorganisms. Assimilation efficiencies were from 30% to 50% for cellulose and from 20% to 35% for hay. In both cases, assimilation efficiencies were higher for sterile food than for nonsterile food.
