On 10 September 1967 the Biological Station of the University of Bergen (the former Bergens Museum) will have existed for 75 years. This is not a very long time, but for a biological station 75 years is a venerable age. In fact the Station is the oldest in Norway and one of the oldest in the world, and it has had a rather eventful and interesting history, the present station being the third in succession. As the Biological Station has played a considerable rôle in marine research and teaching, also internationally, it has been found appropriate to celebrate the jubilee by publishing an historical account.
