The jelly dissolving capacity of echinoderm spermatozoa was tested. The jelly coat is disintegrated by the homologous spermatozoa whereas the jelly exhibits a more or less pronounced resistance to the action of heterologous sperm. The properties of the jelly dissolving factor are discussed. A number of previously undescribed hybridization experiments were carried out.
