Non-invasive survey documents rock art and lithic features in Cundinamarca, suggesting archaeological significance.
Cota Archaeological Site 2 (CAS2) is a previously undocumented archaeological locality located on the eastern slopes of the Serranía del Majuy in Cota, Cundinamarca, Colombia. The site comprises a concentration of rock-art and lithic features, including a painted rock-art panel, a petroglyph, an oval basin-like depression, and several large sandstone formations displaying distinctive zoomorphic morphologies. This report presents the results of a non-invasive archaeological survey conducted on 27 July 2026. The survey documented the site's location, geological and geomorphological setting, principal features, dimensions, orientations, and photographic record. No excavation, sampling, or removal of archaeological or geological material was undertaken, and precise coordinates have been withheld to protect the locality. The report evaluates the archaeological significance of CAS2 while distinguishing documented evidence of human activity from features whose origins remain uncertain. The petroglyph and pictograph provide the clearest evidence of past human activity, while the oval basin-like feature and zoomorphic rock formations require further geological and archaeological assessment. CAS2 represents an unusual concentration of archaeological and potentially anthropogenically modified lithic features within the Serranía del Majuy. The report establishes a baseline record for future research, conservation, and responsible management of the locality.
