Eleven stepfamily self-help books for children and adolescents were reviewed and critiqued. The books were coded on several dimensions: appropriate audience, authors' background, issues identified, advice given, strengths presented. The general interest and quality of writing were rated and books were assigned to one of three categories: highly recommended, recommended, recommended with reservations. The use of the books as an adjunct to therapy was discussed.
