CHILD DEVELOPMENT, 1972, 43, 233-237. 48 infants (24 male, 24 female) 44-54 weeks of age were presented with the same stimuli in both familiar and unfamiliar environments. Measures of visual fixation and manipulative latency showed a significantly greater awareness of and latency to approach a novel stimulus in a familiar environment.
