Thermally stimulated discharge current (TSC) studies are carried out on polypropylene films. The polarizing temperature is kept fixed at 100°C while the polarizing field is maintained at values ranging from 22.7 to 68.7 kV/cm. The complex TSC thermogrames are resolved analytically. Four peaks are observed in the TSC spectrum for polarizing field up to 34.3 kV/cm while at higher fields (34.3 kV/cm) a fifth peak is also observed. These studies suggest that the electret effect in polypropylene (PP) is due to ionic and electron trapping. The relaxation parameters are calculated.
