A study has been made of the spin waves that can occur on an atomically rough surface of a Heisenberg ferromagnet, restricting attention to the case in which a (001) surface is roughened by the addition of a small concentration of overlayer spins. It is found that propagating surface modes can appear where they are absent for a ferromagnet with a smooth free surface.
