A simple method has been proposed to realize the anisotropic crystallization of the layered structure of MoO3 directly from its amorphous gel. Large scale α-MoO3 nanoplatelets have been yielded by using the polymer as the surfactant and intercalation material. All the nanoplatelets showed a lowered dimensionality in the [010] direction.
