A series of 453 consecutive new barium meal and swallow examinations are analysed with reference to the occurrence of oesophageal reflux. The relation to sex and age is considered and the occurrence in association with other lesions discussed. The frequency with which patients may be referred to the Ear, Nose and Throat Department on account of throat symptoms due to this lesion is pointed out and hence examination for it must form a part of all barium swallow examinations.
