We test the sensitivity of a three-body theory of deuteron-nucleus reactions to the imaginary parts of the nucleon-nucleus potentials on which the theory is based, by switching off the imaginary potentials in a previous approximate three-body model. Absorption due to deuteron breakup tends to replace the omitted optical potential absorption, with the result that the lₙ=2 deuteron stripping cross section remains qualitatively unchanged. However, the mechanism of absorption is entirely different.NUCLEAR REACTIONS Scattering theory, effects of imaginary potentials in three-body deuteron-nucleus model.
