The article analyzes the state and development prospects of the port infrastructure of the Russian Far East under sanctions. The methodological basis of the study was general scientific methods of formalization, grouping, analysis, synthesis and comparison. The data sources included statistics from official reports, industry websites and government databases. The main economic indicators of the ports of the Far Eastern region served as the parameters of the study. It is shown that the problem of inland water transport is the state of the existing infrastructure, created back in Soviet times. In addition, the ports of the Far East have long been in the shadow of the country’s strategic priorities. The SWO and sanctions imposed by unfriendly countries against the Russian Federation have led to a redistribution of cargo flows from West to East, and the problems of the ports of the Far East are under the attention of the Russian Government. The article considers measures of state support for the development of port infrastructure and the specifics of its transformation in the context of the region's sea and river ports. The article analyzes a chain of consecutive negative events in terms of port development in the region: the current deficit in rail transport capacity affects the reduction of the ports' competitive advantages, which inevitably leads to an imbalance between the capabilities, needs and available resources in the implementation of the country's Transport Strategy for the Far East. It is shown that the role of sea and river ports of the Far East in the system of national and regional economy does not fully correspond to the tasks set before the industry. The priority tasks are to carry out large-scale dredging works and to form the infrastructure for the development of a transit corridor that can connect the Northern Sea Route with the country's largest railway lines — the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal-Amur Mainline — through the system of river communications.
