In July of 2003, an international workshop entitled "Marine-based Public Health Risk" was held at the International Marine Center in Sardinia. In attendance were more than two dozen distinguished experts in the myriad integrated fi elds associated with the oceans and human health. Th e "Oristano Declaration" evolved from the research, reporting, and debate at that workshop.
