Photostimulable phosphors are used in digital X-ray photography. We report a new phosphor material (Ba,Sr)F 1+x Br 1-x :Eu 2+ which exhibits very good photostimulated luminescence (PSL) properties. Using X-ray diffraction measurements, it is established that the F excess and the Sr fraction are incorporated into the BaFBr lattice. The combination of a F excess and the partial replacement of Ba 2+ by Sr 2+ yields, unexpectedly, improved PSL performance.
