Reports a simulation experiment for educational purposes. The experiment aims to clarify the effects of repulsive and attractive forces on a two-dimensional Lennard-Jones fluid. The simulation uses a molecular dynamics method. Relationships between spatial structure and thermodynamic properties of the system are discussed. The spatial correlation function and the virial equation of state are calculated and the behaviour of the model in different density ranges and at different temperatures is discussed. Computer experiment results are also related to the van der Waals' state equation.
