Narrative review demonstrates linkages between fire safety and UN Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting fire risk reduction as a vital driver of resilience.
Fire safety is an essential yet often overlooked component of sustainable development. As urbanization accelerates and climate‐related hazards intensify, integrating fire risk reduction into sustainability frameworks is becoming increasingly critical. This review employs a structured narrative methodology, synthesizing peer‐reviewed literature and policy reports to examine the relationship between fire safety and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). It explores how fire safety contributes to several SDGs, notably those addressing health (SDG 3), education (SDG 4), clean energy (SDG 7), infrastructure (SDG 9), sustainable cities (SDG 11), responsible production (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), and partnerships (SDG 17). This study frames fire safety as both a technical and social enabler of resilience, equity, and environmental stewardship. Advances in materials science, digital innovation, and inclusive governance are shown to support alignment between fire safety and several UN SDGs. However, persistent issues such as uneven capacity, limited data, and absent standardized metrics continue to impede progress. Embedding fire safety within global sustainability agendas can connect risk management with long‐term development, promoting safer, healthier, and more resilient communities worldwide.
