Taxonomic review reveals lectotypes for five historical Impatiens species, indicating that four represent heterotypic synonyms while establishing nomenclatural clarity.
This paper addresses the typification of five names in the genus Impatiens (Balsaminaceae) described by Colonel R. H. Beddome between 1858 and 1874. Original material corresponding to the untypified names Impatiens akka Bedd., I. ballardii Bedd., I. crenata Bedd., I. gracilis Bedd., and I. tenuis Bedd. were traced. Lectotypes are designated here after the critical analyses of protologues and examination of original materials, in accordance with Article 9.3 of the Madrid Code . The results indicates that only one name is currently accepted, whereas the remaining four represent heterotypic synonyms of previously established taxa. The typifications proposed here fix the application of these names and contribute to improved nomenclatural clarity in Indian Impatiens .
