Simulation study reveals power consumption dynamics across operational modes in a dual-mode rotary electromagnetic valve actuator, indicating pathways for engine energy optimization.
This paper proposes a rotary electromagnetic variable valve actuator (EMVVA) for an engine, which operates under a high-frequency dynamic reciprocating linear motion mechanism and can switch between reciprocating swing (RS) and full rotation (FR) modes, achieving high dynamic performance and low driving energy consumption. To elucidate the interdependencies among excitation current, mechanical load, valve lift, dynamic response, and power consumption, a comprehensive dynamic modeling framework was established, incorporating electromagnetic field analysis, drive circuit characterization, multi-body dynamics simulation, and multi-physics coupling validation. The power consumption characteristics of the EMVVA under different operating modes were investigated. The variation laws of the transient power consumption of EMVVA with engine speed and valve lift under different operating modes, as well as the distribution of various power consumption components in the system, are analyzed in detail. This provides essential theoretical models and data support for its performance optimization and engine application.
