Quercus leucotrichophora leaf extracts outperform acorn extracts in reducing doxorubicin-induced injury via stronger antioxidant effects.
Why the study?
The study was conducted to comparatively evaluate the phytochemical composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and protective effects of hydroalcoholic leaf and acorn extracts against doxorubicin-induced injury.
Do Quercus leucotrichophora leaf and acorn extracts protect against doxorubicin-induced oxidative and inflammatory injury?
Do Quercus leucotrichophora leaf and acorn extracts protect against doxorubicin-induced oxidative and inflammatory injury?
Quercus leucotrichophora leaf extracts demonstrate significant protective efficacy against doxorubicin-induced oxidative and inflammatory injury, likely due to their polyphenol-rich profile.
Should not yet change practice; leaves open whether leaf extracts warrant human trials for doxorubicin injury.
PURPOSE: The present study comparatively evaluated the phytochemical composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and protective effects of hydroalcoholic leaf and acorn extracts of RESULTS: Leaf extracts exhibited significantly higher phenolic and flavonoid contents and demonstrated stronger antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and antibiofilm activities than acorn extracts. Doxorubicin markedly increased nitric oxide and myeloperoxidase levels while reducing catalase activity, total antioxidant capacity, and body weight. Both extracts significantly reversed these pathological alterations in a dose-dependent manner, with leaf extracts showing greater protective efficacy. ¹H-NMR profiling revealed a polyphenol- and oxygenated metabolite-rich profile in leaves, whereas acorns were dominated by lipid- and sterol-associated metabolites. CONCLUSION: This study provides comparative evidence that

Ahmad et al. (2026) studied Doxorubicin-induced oxidative and inflammatory injury. Quercus leucotrichophora leaf and acorn extracts vs. Acorn extract / Doxorubicin alone was evaluated on Protective effects against doxorubicin-induced oxidative and inflammatory injury. Quercus leucotrichophora leaf extracts demonstrated stronger antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities than acorn extracts, showing greater protective efficacy against doxorubicin-induced injury.
