Low-energy-loss spectroscopy with wave-vector resolution has been applied to study transitions between dangling-bond surface states of the Si(111)-(7×{}7) surface. Evidence of the dispersion of these surface states within the (7×{}7) surface Brillouin zone is obtained for the first time. Comparison with angle-resolved and inverse-photoemission spectroscopy data is also discussed.
