The velocity and absorption of ultrasonic waves have been measured in the critical temperature region of hydrogen chloride at frequencies between 1 and 9 Mc. To explain the f2 frequency dependence of the absorption on the basis of scattering by molecular ``clusters,'' one must assume that there is a correlation in the fluctuations in density between adjacent volumes of the fluid.
