To compare the clinical efficacy of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide alone versus combined with topical onion extract gel for treating keloids and hypertrophic scars.
Enrolled 27 patients randomized to receive either intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) combined with onion extract gel (n=14) or intralesional TAC monotherapy (n=13).
Evaluated and graded scar characteristics at baseline and follow-up visits at weeks 4, 12, and 20.
Both the combination group and the monotherapy group showed statistically significant improvement from baseline at week 20 (p < .05), with no significant differences between groups at baseline (p > .05).
TAC combined with onion extract was more effective than TAC monotherapy for reducing scar elevation, itching, and pain-sensitiveness, with no differences observed in erythema or induration and no adverse effects reported.
