Overvoltage for the chlorine discharge using Acheson graphite, Siemens Plania Werke graphite, Conradty graphite, magnetite and other electrodes in sodium chloride solutions was measured at different current densities and temperatures. Overvoltage for hydrogen discharge in mixed solutions of sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride of different concentrations and at different current densities was studied. The experiments were conducted under conditions corresponding to those applied commercially. The changes in the conductivity of the Vorce cell diaphragms during the operation of the cell were studied. Methods of voltage balancing, such as the Vorce cell balance, are described.
