This paper provides an overview of tourist hotel development in China. It investigates two critical problems in China hotels and examines the underlying causes of these problems. The problems examined relate to pricing and marketing. The implications of these problems are discussed and recommendations are made in the context of suggesting alternatives to simple discounting by applying marketing principles and formulating a sound pricing policy. Need for adopting modern marketing frameworks is discussed.
