“Through-space” migration of palladium between remote carbon atoms appears to take place in the generation of π-allyl–palladium complexes, which are useful intermediates in organic synthesis. The reaction of halogenated arenes with alkynes under Pd-migration conditions provides the mixture of allylic esters A–C (see reaction shown; X=Br, I; R1=H, OMe, CO2Et, Cl; R2=Ph, tBu).
