In CO 2 laser-based photoacoustic (PA) systems, N 2 takes part in the generation of the PA signal. This process causes the nonlinear relation of the photoacoustic signal to the CO 2 concentration. This phenomenon can be explained simply using a phasor diagram. The model leads to the determination of the lag in the PA signal due to CO 2 relaxation.
