Rhythm, Rhyme, and Rhetoric in the Music of Public Enemy

The records of La Etnnia in the 1990sThe present study is focused on the first three musical productions of the rap group La Etnnia, published between 1995 and 1997, in Bogotá, Colombia.Although, there are reeditions of the same records in different formats this will not be considered within the present work.In the same manner, background elements prior to the publication of the three records opens a historical and contextual panorama on the origins of the local movement that gave rise to the formation of La Etnnia rap group.This allows a draft of the principal features found on these records stablishing the hip hop appropriation that took place within the context in Bogotá.As part of the present study, there will be different levels of analysis that involve the recognition of the topics present within the lyrics of the songs, musical elements, iconography and finally; a characterization from the musical poetics of rap music proposed by Adam Krims.The latter with the intention of contributing to a foundation that can lead to catalogue different rap styles in the hip hop that is produced in Bogotá.
