Diurnal cycles of leaf and cluster water potential and K⁺ concentrations of xylem exudates and berry juice were investigated on K fertilized and control Shiraz vines in a cool, dryland vineyard (Eden Valley) and a hot, irrigated vineyard (Waikerie). Fertilized vines exhibited more severe water stress, and the berry juice K⁺ contents varied diurnally as a linear function of water stress. Regional and maturity effects on diurnal patterns of K⁺ content of exudates and juice were observed. Potassium fertilizing of vines did not significantly affect the K⁺ concentration of leaf or cluster xylem exudates or berry juice.
