Case report outlines novel workflow for retrieving dislodged leadless pacemaker from distal pulmonary artery.
Why the study?
As leadless pacemaker implantations increase, rare complications such as device dislodgement into the pulmonary circulation may occur.
Case Report (n=1)
Describes a workflow for the removal of a dislodged leadless pacemaker from the distal pulmonary artery.
May aid management of rare leadless pacemaker dislodgement; leaves open standardized protocols and safety data.
Leadless pacemaker (LP) implantation and its adoption are becoming increasingly mainstream1. The Abbott Aveir VR single-chamber pacemaker was approved for use in April 2022 by the FDA.2 As implantations increase, rare complications such as dislodgement of these pacemakers may occur. LPs are implanted percutaneously through femoral venous access and provide self-contained, intracardiac single-chamber right ventricular (RV) pacing. Device dislodgement rates of 1.7% were reported in the Leadless II trial at six months of follow up.

Taimur et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Dislodged leadless pacemaker (n=1). Removal of dislodged leadless pacemaker was evaluated. A workflow for the removal of a dislodged leadless pacemaker from the distal pulmonary artery was described in a case report.
