Wired up: Nanowires with organic nanojunctions can be prepared by in-wire conversion without further device post-processing. A metal segment of a multisegmented nanowire is converted into an organic semiconductor by chemical vapor deposition (see picture). This low-temperature method allows good junction quality, straightforward experimental protocols, and compatibility with complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor fabrication processes.
