The purpose of this article is to familiarize the reader with the successful model of primary care PBRNs and to extend this model to end-of-life/palliative care research. Using examples from the Population-based Palliative Care Research Network (PoPCRN), this paper defines PBRNs, describes issues related to governance and organizational structure and the necessary elements for successful PBRN-based research, and discusses the challenges and opportunities presented by PBRNs for end-oflife and palliative care research.
